Foreign Affairs Committee re-elects David McAllister as Chair
On Tuesday, MEPs of the Foreign Affairs Committee elected their Chair as well as all four members of its bureau for the coming two and a half years.
David MCALLISTER (EPP, Germany) has been re-elected by acclamation and will continue to chair the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament with its 79 Members. It is the third largest Committee in the European Parliament following the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety.
“I would like to thank my colleagues for re-electing me as Committee Chairman. AFET starts its new mandate at a time of high geopolitical tensions. There can be no grace period for us to take up our work. The European Union needs to maintain a strong transatlantic relationship, strengthen the European pillar within NATO, continue its support of Ukraine in its fight against the Russian war of aggression and contain Chinese influence. We need to put continued emphasis on the necessity of European enlargement. The Foreign Affairs Committee has an important role to play in all of those tasks. I will continue to work hard to ensure that all Members have the opportunity to contribute to this endeavour” commented David McAllister after the vote.
MEPs also elected all four committee vice-chairs.
- 1st Vice-Chair Hana JALLOUL MURO (S&D, Spain), elected by acclamation
- 2nd Vice-Chair Urmas PAET (Renew, Estonia), elected by acclamation
- 3rd Vice-Chair Alberico GAMBINO (EC, Italy), 41/13/21
- 4th Vice-Chair Ioan-Rareș BOGDAN (EPP, Romania), 34/20/3
Together with David McAllister, they will form the Committee’s bureau.
