Statement of the leader of the Tax matters subcommittee delegation to the UAE

Seven MEPs of the Tax matters subcommitee are currently in the United Arab Emirates to discuss developments in the area of international taxation and fighting tax avoidance and evasion.

 

The Chair of the subcommittee and leader of the delegation, Pasquale Tridico (The Left, IT) has made the following statement:

 

"We welcome the progress made in the recent years by the UAE for more tax transparency and the engagement by the Emirati authorities to ensure further improvements in this important area. We encourage further targeted efforts regarding the exchange of relevant information since fighting tax evasion and money laundering are shared priorities for the EU and the UAE.

 

"In this context, we particularly acknowledge the UAE’s public company register while emphasizing the need for greater transparency, including public access to detailed information like financial accounts and managers’ names, as well as full, timely access to beneficial ownership data for foreign authorities.

 

"The European Parliament encourages the UAE authorities to continue cooperation towards greater tax transparency."

 

The delegation will continue its meeting until Wednesday.
