EP President Metsola and a delegation of 15 MEPs will be in New York on 20-24 September to meet with representatives of several UN and international organisations.

The President of the European Parliament and an ad hoc delegation will be in New York to attend the UN Summit of the Future and participate in the Action Days preceding the Summit. President Metsola will also attend the UN General Assembly, hold bilateral meetings and undertake several speaking engagements.

On 20-23 September, 15 MEPs from five Parliament committees will meet with high-level UN and international representatives, financial institutions, parliamentarians from across the globe, civil society representatives and other key stakeholders to discuss how to advance priority themes, including sustainable development and financing, digital and technology, peace and security, future generations, and global governance.

The Summit of the Future is a high-level event, bringing world leaders together to forge a new international consensus on how to deliver a better present and safeguard the future. Discussions will focus on issues such as faster implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stronger efforts to meet existing international commitments and concrete steps to respond to emerging challenges and opportunities in a number of areas.

On Saturday 21 September the European Parliament is co-hosting with the National Assembly of Cote d'Ivoire a discussion on “How can parliaments close the SDG financing gap?”, featuring a speech by the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola. The event will be livestreamed from 14.30-15.45 local time (20.30-21.45 CET), or available to watch later, here.

On Sunday 22 September, Parliament will host a discussion on the role of parliaments in multilateralism at the global level. President Metsola will deliver an opening speech at the event, which will work to strengthen ties with other parliaments from across the world.

MEPs from the committees on Foreign Affairs (AFET), Development (DEVE) and Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), and subcommittees on Human Rights (DROI) and Security and Defence (SEDE) will form part of the European Parliament delegation.
