Short Story of a Bulgarian Writer Entered a US Textbook on Literature

The short story "Blood" by Bulgarian writer Zdravka Evtimova, translated into English, was included in a 8th-grade literature textbook in the United States. It also includes works by artists such as Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Edgar Allan Poe and H. P. Lovecraft, reports Dnevnik.



The textbook is divided into 6 parts, with 11 stories. Zdravka Evtimova's "Blood" is situated in the second part of the textbook, entitled "The thrill we feel in experiencing something terrible." The other story in this section is H. P. Lovecraft's The Outsider.



The aim of the textbook is that 8th-grade students enrich their vocabulary, their knowledge of language and linguistic phenomena through literary works. To acquire the skills to speak and write independently on a given topic. To acquire basic knowledge about a plot and its construction in different works of prose, and to be able to justify their opinions on literary works.



Zdravka Evtimova was born in 1959 in Pernik. She graduated in English Philology at the St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo. Specializes arts translation in St. Louis, USA. Her stories have been published in more than 32 countries. She is a winner of numerous national and international awards.



In 2016, her novel, "The Same River," was awarded the "Novel of the Year" award for 2015 by the 13th Century Bulgaria Fund. Her latest book is also a novel - The Green Eyes of the Wind.
